Malkin Nets Milestone Goal as Crosby Hits 1,600 Points in Penguins’ Victory

Evgeni Malkin nets his 500th goal as Sidney Crosby reaches 1,600 points in Penguins’ triumph

Sydney Crosby, the captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins, reached an impressive milestone of 1,600 points during the game against the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday. He assisted his long-time friend and teammate, Evgeni Malkin, in scoring his 500th goal.

Crosby then finished the memorable evening by scoring the overtime goal — the first of the season for him — leading the Penguins to a thrilling 6-5 win.

At 37 years old, Crosby has now become the 10th player in NHL history to reach the 1,600-point mark, achieving it with an assist on Bryan Rust’s goal in the first period. With 593 goals and 1,009 assists, he’s accomplished this in just 1,277 career games over two decades.

If Crosby scores seven more goals, he will become only the ninth player in history to achieve at least 600 goals and 1,000 assists, adding to his accolades as a three-time Stanley Cup champion and eight-time All-Star.

Crosby was selected as the first overall pick in the 2005 draft and has tallied five assists in five games this season.

Malkin, who has played alongside Crosby since the 2006-07 season, also achieved a significant milestone as the 48th player in NHL history to reach 500 goals. The 38-year-old from Russia provided three assists during the game, including one for Crosby’s overtime goal, and now holds 1,306 points in his career (500 goals, 806 assists) from 1,150 games.

Now in his 19th season since being drafted second overall in 2004, Malkin leads the league with 11 points so far this season, including two goals and a league-high nine assists.
