What to Know About Inauguration Day for President-elect Donald Trump
Inauguration Day is just one week away as President-elect Donald Trump prepares for his second term and gets ready to take office as the 47th President of the United States.
This inauguration coincides with a federal holiday: Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Trump has already announced most of his Cabinet nominees along with various other key White House roles.
However, some of these appointments have sparked controversy. Trump had to find a replacement for attorney general after Matt Gaetz withdrew amidst allegations of past sexual misconduct investigations, which Gaetz has denied.
Additionally, Trump has recently made headlines as he is the first former or incoming U.S. president to be criminally sentenced.
As Inauguration Day approaches, here’s what you need to know.
When is Inauguration Day?
Trump’s inauguration is set for January 20, 2025, in Washington, D.C.
Latest Updates on Trump’s Transition
In the final days of the Trump transition, the president-elect has continued to make bold statements aimed at key trading partners like Canada.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Trump proposed a new defense spending target for NATO allies and provided a revised schedule for concluding Russia’s conflict in Ukraine. He also did not dismiss the use of military force to assert control over the Panama Canal and Greenland.
“We require them for our economic security,” Trump stated. “The Panama Canal was constructed for military purposes.”
Trump indicated plans to reverse numerous policies enacted during the Biden administration, including a recently introduced ban on offshore drilling along U.S. coastlines, and to reevaluate the country’s foreign relations.
