Megan Thee Stallion accuses Tory Lanez of harassment in restraining order request
Megan Thee Stallion is requesting a restraining order against Tory Lanez, two years after he was convicted of shooting her in 2020.
<p.Stallion, born Megan Pete, submitted the request for a temporary restraining order against Lanez (whose real name is Daystar Peterson) on Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, as per documents obtained by YSL News.
Lanez was found guilty in December 2022 for shooting the Grammy-winning artist during a reported fight in Hollywood Hills in July 2020. The Canadian musician, who denied all charges before his trial, faced accusations of discharging a firearm with gross negligence, assault with a semi-automatic firearm, and carrying an unregistered loaded firearm in a vehicle.
He received a 10-year prison sentence in August 2023.
Even after Stallion’s triumph in court against Lanez, she claims the singer has initiated a “harassment campaign” against her, utilizing a group of bloggers to disparage her online.
The filing states, “Most troubling is that unless Ms. Pete is granted at least a civil harassment restraining order, she will remain unprotected upon Mr. Peterson’s release from prison.” This circumstance alone causes Ms. Pete significant emotional distress and instills fear for her safety.”
As of the publication time, Lanez’s representatives were not available for comments.
In her request, Stallion is asking the court to ensure that Lanez stays at least 100 yards away from her, her home, car, and workplace. Additionally, she seeks an order forbidding Lanez from contacting her in any way and stopping his supposed online harassment.
Tory Lanez wages ‘psychological warfare’ against Megan Thee Stallion with alleged online harassment: Attorney
Stallion’s lawyer, Mari Fagel Henderson, asserts in the restraining order request that Lanez “continues to intimidate” her through third-party “bloggers,” who Lanez allegedly hired to “disseminate defamatory information about Ms. Pete.”
The legal team for Stallion provides multiple posts from Elizabeth Milagro Cooper, aka Milagro Gramz, as proof of Lanez’s suspected harassment efforts. Stallion filed a lawsuit against Cooper in October, claiming the blogger engaged in cyberstalking, caused emotional distress, and shared an “altered sexual representation” of her via deepfake pornography images.
Cooper’s posts challenge key elements of Lanez’s trial and question Stallion’s reliability, according to the documents included in the filing. As per the restraining order document, Stallion updated her lawsuit against Cooper on December 10 to incorporate new findings regarding Cooper’s “covert collaboration” with Lanez, asserting that Lanez may have compensated Cooper for her actions.
“Mr. Peterson is fully conscious of the psychological torment he has inflicted on Ms. Pete, yet he continues to use his supporters to undermine Ms. Pete’s character and integrity,” the complaint highlights. “Years after the criminal trial, Mr. Peterson, through his media proxies, continues to re-traumatize Ms. Pete by forcing her to relive this ordeal.”
Prior to Lanez’s conviction and sentencing, Judge David Herriford had issued a protective order against Lanez in October 2020, followed by a gag order in February 2021, according to the filing. The protective order, prohibiting Lanez from coming within 100 yards of Stallion, remained in effect until 2023.
Due to the nature of their relationship, Stallion is unable to secure a criminal protective order against Lanez as it does not fulfill the legal requirements outlined in the complaint.
A hearing for this case is set for January 9.
