Method Man and NYPD refute claims of gym fight in Staten Island

Method Man, a renowned rapper and a former member of the Wu-Tang Clan, is rejecting accusations of assault.

The representative for the music producer dismissed reports from the New York Post on Thursday, which alleged that he assaulted a man at Crunch Fitness Gym on Staten Island, striking him seven times.

According to the Post’s report, the incident involved Smith and Patrick Sokoya, who is claimed to be an ex-boyfriend of Smith’s daughter.

“Mr. Smith firmly denies the claims made and has not been arrested by any law enforcement bodies,” wrote Nicole Perna, Method Man’s representative (whose real name is Clifford Smith, Jr.), in an email to YSL News on Thursday.

Furthermore, the New York Police Department confirmed to YSL News via email on Friday that they have no record of an arrest connected to this incident.

In 2009, Smith faced charges of tax evasion, but he quickly resolved the issue by issuing a restitution check on the spot, as reported by Billboard.

The Wu-Tang Clan, one of Staten Island’s most notable contributions to music, is recognized as a major force in hip-hop culture. Their 1998 album “Wu-Tang Forever” was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rap Album, and their classic song C.R.E.A.M. continues to be celebrated over 30 years since its initial release.
