Which NFL game is happening today? Saints versus Chiefs in Monday Night Football

The Kansas City Chiefs’ quest for a third consecutive championship faced a significant blow when their top receiver, Rashee Rice, injured his knee after a collision with quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs have experienced a wave of injuries this season: Rice is out for the remainder of the year, as is receiver Hollywood Brown due to a shoulder injury. Starting running back Isiah Pacheco is expected to be sidelined for two months after fracturing his leg during Week 2.

Additionally, star tight end Travis Kelce has been closely guarded by defenses and is having one of the slowest starts in his career.

Despite these setbacks, Mahomes, coach Andy Reid, and the three-time Super Bowl champions remain focused on their goal of securing a fourth title in franchise history.

Kansas City is set to face the New Orleans Saints in Monday Night Football this evening.

Derek Carr and the Saints made a strong statement in Week 2 with a 44-19 win against the Dallas Cowboys, but they have lost their last two games (15-12 against the Philadelphia Eagles and 26-24 against the Atlanta Falcons).

A visit to Kansas City in Week 5 poses a challenge for the Saints, but it’s a valuable opportunity to gauge their performance against the reigning champions this Monday night.

Quarterback matchup: Patrick Mahomes vs. Derek Carr

So far this season, Mahomes has faced challenges, as defenses have limited his effectiveness by utilizing two-high safety coverages. He has completed six touchdown passes and five interceptions, placing him 11th overall with 904 passing yards through four games. The Chiefs remain unbeaten at 4-0 but must now continue their success without Rice, who contributed 24 receptions for 288 yards and three touchdowns before his injury. Kelce is currently the second-leading receiver on the team with 15 catches for 158 yards, although he has yet to score a touchdown.

Derek Carr had an impressive start with three touchdown passes in the opening game against the Carolina Panthers, but his performance has declined since then, with only two touchdowns in Week 2, one in Week 3, and none in Week 4. With a total of 824 passing yards, he has thrown six touchdown passes to five different receivers but will need to improve as the Saints sit at a 2-2 record. This is Carr’s second season as the starter for the Saints, a team with a strong veteran presence aiming to compete for a playoff spot.

Player to keep an eye on: Saints RB Alvin Kamara

Kamara had a standout performance against the Cowboys in Week 2, scoring four touchdowns, but has only found the end zone once in the past two games (against the Falcons last week). Despite this, he leads the NFL with 536 yards from scrimmage and has accumulated six total touchdowns across the first four games. If the Saints hope to secure a victory against the Chiefs on Monday night, they will rely heavily on Kamara to make significant contributions in this pivotal match.
