Shaboozey to headline halftime show of Lions-Bears game on Thanksgiving
After recently winning the People’s Choice Country Award for both new artist and new artist song, and just days after receiving six Grammy nominations, country music sensation Shaboozey is set to step into a new role: halftime performer.
The Detroit Lions revealed on Sunday that the Nigerian-American musician will headline their halftime show during the Thanksgiving Day game against the Chicago Bears.
Shaboozey gained fame with his hit track “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” which launched him into the spotlight. In August, Spotify designated the song as one of its Global Top 5 Songs of the Summer, alongside tracks like “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter and “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar.
This one song earned Shaboozey multiple Grammy nominations, including best new artist, song of the year, best country solo performance, and best country song. He also collaborated on tracks “Spaghetti” and “Sweet Honey Buckiin'” from Beyoncé’s acclaimed album “Cowboy Carter.”
Shaboozey reaches huge milestones in breakout year
In May 2024, Shaboozey made history as the first Black male artist to top both Billboard’s Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs charts with “A Bar Song (Tipsy).”
According to Billboard, he is only the second Black artist ever to achieve this double success, with Beyoncé being the first for her song “Texas Hold ‘Em.”
At 29 years old, his hit is the first song ever to break into the top 10 across the country, pop, adult pop, and rhythmic airplay charts.
Earlier this year, Shaboozey took over the number one position on Billboard’s Hot Country chart from Beyoncé, marking the first time in history that two Black artists led the chart back-to-back.
