‘SNL’ Cast Playfully Backs Trump, Dana Carvey Channels Elon Musk

‘SNL’ cast humorously voices support for Trump, Dana Carvey impersonates Elon Musk

“Saturday Night Live” aims to appeal to President-elect Donald Trump.

The episode following the election began with a seemingly serious discussion regarding Trump’s victory. “For many, including viewers of this show, the outcome was surprising and even distressing,” said Ego Nwodim, while Kenan Thompson remarked that Trump “blatantly called for revenge against his opponents.”

To address this, the cast spent the remainder of the opening skit humorously asserting their long-standing support for Trump, claiming they had voted for him.

“We’ve been with you every step of the way!” Thompson declared. Bowen Yang claimed, “Our support for you has never faltered,” and Marcello Hernández insisted, “Everyone on this stage voted for you!” Sarah Sherman humorously called Trump “the man I want my future children to admire,” while Colin Jost poked fun at his “Weekend Update” co-host, saying, “I dislike how the mainstream media – Michael Che – attempts to portray you in a negative light.”

James Austin Johnson, portraying Trump on the show, introduced a new, more flattering version of the president-elect, referred to as “hot jacked Trump.”

Wearing a black tank top that accentuated his physique, Johnson exclaimed, “From now on, we will present a very positive image of Trump because, honestly, he is my hero, and he’s going to be an amazing president, possibly even a king. We love you, buddy!”

Yang humorously mentioned considering having a drink on Wednesday morning after the election, before Nwodim addressed Trump, saying, “We look forward to seeing what you do with the country this time around. I keep waking up screaming in the middle of the night. With excitement, of course!”

Maya Rudolph’s Kamala Harris did not appear in the opening sketch, but after Thompson suggested Elon Musk could take them to Mars if things go awry during Trump’s second term, Dana Carvey showcased his impression of the Tesla CEO. The comedian imitated Musk’s energetic stage presence at Trump’s rallies, stating, “Seriously, I am now in charge of the country.”

Bill Burr’s monologue comments on Trump’s victory, receives mixed feedback

Bill Burr hosted the episode and delivered a monologue that seemed to garner a muted response from the audience and elicited mixed reactions on social media. He began with two minutes of light-hearted jokes before addressing “what everyone wants to discuss”: the election.

“Alright, ladies, you’re 0 and 2 against this guy!” he quipped.

Reflecting on the Democrats’ losses, Burr humorously suggested women stop wearing pantsuits.

“Quit trying to assert yourselves,” he joked. “You don’t win based on policy. You need to let loose a little. I’m not suggesting going full Hooters, but find a balance between Applebee’s and ‘Your dad left you.’ You all know how to snag a free drink.”

“Listen, I know many ‘ugly’ women − feminists, I mean − may not want to hear this, but just tease them a bit. Give a farmer a chance to feel attractive. Push a state slightly towards your favor.”

Burr also wondered how anyone could remain undecided when Harris and Trump were such distinct opposites and remarked that he was shocked Trump didn’t win after surviving an assassination attempt. “When I was younger, if a presidential candidate was shot and survived, that was the end of their campaign!”

Many on social media expressed dissatisfaction with Burr’s monologue, with one X user questioning, “Who at SNL allowed Bill Burr to deliver such an unfunny and misogynistic routine?” Another commented, “Bill Burr’s description of feminists as ‘ugly women’ on the first SNL after the election has radicalized me to an extent I couldn’t have imagined earlier in the week.”

In YouTube comments, some fans expressed disappointment, with one stating, “He’s my all-time favorite, but this time he seemed nervous,” while another said, “I’ve finally seen Bill fail.” In contrast, others supported him, as one X post called the monologue “one of the funniest performances I’ve seen on ‘SNL.’ ”

Burr also sparked controversy with a joke about catching the flu and speculated if he contracted it from “an Asian.” He later clarified that he actually got it from a “barefoot cowboy on a plane.”

Colin Jost, Michael Che comment on election results during ‘Weekend Update’: ‘He’s invincible’

Jost began “Weekend Update” with a joke about Trump’s victory, saying that “we discovered that Democrats actually don’t know.”

“It feels like we’re in a virtual reality, and whoever’s behind Trump has some sort of cheat code. It’s like he can’t be beaten. He’s a character in ‘Grand Theft Auto’ who throws someone out of his car and just zooms into the White House. But don’t worry, folks. If there’s one thing Democrats are good at, it’s taking a good look at themselves, figuring out where they went wrong, and they’ll probably just run Biden again in 2028.”

Che enjoyed a drink while pondering why anyone thought Harris stood a chance.

“What made me think rural Pennsylvania would choose the Jamaican Indian woman?” he quipped. “I’ve clearly been hanging out too much with you overly optimistic white liberals.”

“SNL” will be back next week, featuring Charli XCX as both the host and musical guest.
