Southwest Airlines Aircraft Hit by Bullet Near Cockpit at Dallas Love Field Airport
On Friday night, a Southwest Airlines aircraft at Dallas Love Field Airport was hit by a bullet, prompting the plane to return to the gate.
According to a statement by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to YSL News, the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. while Southwest Airlines Flight 2494 was taxiing for departure. The bullet struck the area near the cockpit.
The FAA confirmed that the Boeing 737-800 returned to the gate, where passengers disembarked. The flight was originally bound for Indianapolis International Airport.
A spokesperson for Southwest Airlines remarked in an email to Reuters that “Southwest Airlines Flight 2494 was preparing to leave for Indianapolis when a bullet hit the right side of the plane, just underneath the flight deck.”
Bullet Hits Southwest Airlines Plane, No Injuries Reported
Following the passengers exiting the aircraft, Southwest Airlines stated that there were no reported injuries.
The airline informed Reuters that “law enforcement has been alerted, and the aircraft has been taken out of service.”
Dallas Love Field Airport communicated to Reuters that both Dallas police and Dallas Fire-Rescue attended to the situation. In a post on the social media platform X, the airport noted: “No injuries occurred, and the impact on airport operations was minimal.”
