State Farm Pulls Super Bowl Ad as California Wildfires Rage On, Following Last Year’s Ad Meter Triumph

State Farm Cancels Super Bowl Ad Due to California Wildfires, Following Last Year’s Ad Meter Success

State Farm Insurance, a longtime player in Super Bowl commercials, has decided to withdraw its advertisement from next month’s game in light of the severe wildfires affecting California.

This decision comes just one year after their ad won the top spot in YSL News’s Ad Meter competition, which highlighted a fun commercial featuring Hollywood icons Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The 60-second ad, titled “Like A Good Neighbaa,” humorously incorporated Schwarzenegger’s strong Austrian accent, poking fun at his struggle to say the company’s famous slogan. It also showcased Schwarzenegger in various heroic scenarios, including rescuing a pair of dogs while a house is ablaze in the background.

State Farm issued a statement to YSL News and other media outlets expressing, “Our agents and employees are entirely devoted to assisting customers affected by the Southern California wildfires during this crisis. We have the largest claims team in the industry and are employing our full disaster response teams to aid in recovery, both locally in Los Angeles and nationwide.”

“Our priority is on providing assistance to the residents of Los Angeles. Thus, we will not be advertising during the game as we had initially intended.”

The wildfires raging through the Altadena and Pacific Palisades areas of Los Angeles have tragically resulted in at least 25 deaths and have either destroyed or harmed over 12,000 homes and businesses. According to Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna, more than 200,000 residents have had to evacuate, with at least 82,000 still under evacuation orders as of Thursday.

Large insurance companies like State Farm face an immense challenge as residents confront what has been labeled an “insurance crisis,” stemming from hesitance to insure properties in high-risk zones. Additionally, the region could be at risk for severe mudslides if heavy rain occurs in the coming weeks, which would turn the charred hillsides into a dangerous landscape.

Fox, which will showcase the Super Bowl on February 9 from New Orleans, has already filled all its advertising slots, so finding a substitute for State Farm’s ad space should pose no problem. The price for a 30-second ad is reportedly around $7 million.
