Stefon Diggs Injury Update: Texans Receiver Done for the Season with Torn ACL
The Houston Texans’ passing game has suffered yet another significant setback.
Wide receiver Stefon Diggs will be out for the rest of the season due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) he sustained during the team’s victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, confirmed by Texans coach DeMeco Ryans.
Diggs experienced the injury without any contact during the third quarter while changing direction on a route. He was able to walk off the field but was later deemed unable to continue, having concluded the game with five receptions for 81 yards.
The 30-year-old Diggs had recorded a team-high of 47 receptions this season and stood second on the Texans with 496 receiving yards over eight games.
“I genuinely feel for him,” Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud expressed after the announcement. “He has put in a tremendous amount of effort. He was enjoying one of the best seasons of his career, or at least that is what he shared with us. I just empathize with him and hope for his swift recovery. I’m confident he will come back even stronger.”
Texans Wide Receiver Depth Chart Post-Diggs Injury
With Nico Collins out on injured reserve (hamstring) until at least Week 10, the Texans will head into Thursday’s game against the New York Jets missing their top two receiving options.
Tank Dell is now third on the team, having made 24 receptions for 229 yards. Tight end Dalton Schultz may also see an increased role in the passing game.
Ryans indicated that the team prefers to utilize their current players rather than making trades, as the NFL trade deadline approaches next Tuesday.
“We have confidence in the players we possess,” Ryans mentioned. “We’re looking forward to seeing who will rise to the occasion next.”
Excluding Diggs, the Texans now have five active wide receivers on the roster:
- Tank Dell
- Xavier Hutchinson
- Robert Woods
- John Metchie III
- Steven Sims
Details of Stefon Diggs’ Contract
Following his trade from the Buffalo Bills to the Texans this offseason, Diggs finalized a revised contract with the Texans, which increased the $3.5 million guaranteed for 2025 and removed the last three years of his deal, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent next spring.
The four-time Pro Bowler was due to earn $22.52 million on his one-year contract.
