The 2025 Volkswagen ID Buzz EV: More Than Just a Minivan Experience!

What is the price of the 2025 Volkswagen ID Buzz EV?

The official pricing for the much-anticipated Volkswagen ID Buzz electric van has been revealed. While the starting price of $61,545 for the 2025 VW ID Buzz may seem steep, it aligns closely with other electric vehicles available today. Specifically, it competes with Kia’s EV9 SUV in the three-row, boxy electric van segment. When comparing features, the ID Buzz and EV9 are quite similar, which means that a similarly equipped ID Buzz costs roughly the same as the EV9. Both vehicles are stylish and stand out in terms of personality, making them comparable in this market.

It’s important to note that while the ID Buzz is indeed more expensive than typical minivans, the difference isn’t monumental. The only minivan with an all-electric option is the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, which combines a traditional V-6 engine with electric motors for a limited electric range. The Pacifica’s price starts at $52,750 and can reach into the mid-$60,000s. Similarly, gas-only and conventional hybrids from Honda, Toyota, and Kia range from around $40,000 to $60,000. Now, let’s dive deeper into the trims and pricing details for the 2025 ID Buzz, which will come in three variants: Pro S, Pro S Plus, and 1st Edition.

ID Buzz Pro S

Each 2025 ID Buzz will come loaded with features including 20-inch wheels, a 91-kWh battery, a 12.9-inch touchscreen, wireless charging for devices, 30-color ambient lighting, parking assistance at both the front and rear, IQ.Drive with adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance, full-LED headlights with adaptive lighting, dual power-sliding side doors, a power liftgate, heated and ventilated front seating, a heated steering wheel, heated second-row outboard seats, a 110-volt household power outlet at the front, eight USB-C ports, three-zone climate control, and sound-attenuating acoustic glass.

The base Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro S comes with plenty of standard features, matching most high-end trims of typical minivans, except it uses leatherette (synthetic leather) upholstery. However, this trim offers limited options: it only features rear-wheel drive and a single electric motor (for now, all-wheel drive won’t be an option on the Pro S), and it has a second-row bench to accommodate a total of seven seats. Higher trims allow for captain’s chairs (which only seat six) or two-tone exterior color schemes. The paint choices are limited to three options: Candy White, Deep Black Pearl, and Metro Silver, with two interior color options: Copper and Moonlight.

Starting price for this trim is $61,545, which includes Volkswagen’s $1,550 destination fee. Volkswagen estimates a range of 234 miles for the rear-drive, single-motor Pro S with the 91-kWh battery, and this range applies across all rear-drive configurations in the lineup.

ID Buzz Pro S Plus

Upgrading to the Pro S Plus trim allows for a dual-motor all-wheel drive option, increasing total power from 282 hp to 335 hp. If you choose the rear-drive Pro S Plus, it will come with a standard second-row bench seat, but you can opt for captain’s chairs (reducing total seating to six) for an added cost of $645. If you select the all-wheel drive (4Motion) option, captain’s chairs are your only seating choice, along with a heated windshield; the second-row bench cannot be combined with the AWD feature. With the dual-motor AWD version, your range decreases by just three miles to 231 miles, despite the increased output and traction.

The Pro S Plus trim comes with added standard features! These include an upgraded parking camera, a head-up display for the driver, a 700-watt harman/kardon audio system, and a European-style manually retractable tow hitch that tucks under the bumper when not in use. Options consist of an electrochromic panoramic sunroof ($1,495) and a Flexboard to create a flat load surface when the seats are folded down. The full range of two-tone paint options ($995 each) and all three available interior color schemes can also be selected. The starting price for the ID Buzz Pro S Plus is $65,045 for the rear-drive model and $69,545 for the 4Motion AWD variant, both including the $1,550 destination charge.

ID Buzz 1st Edition

This special edition of the Buzz will be limited to the vehicle’s launch period, so ensure you grab one while supplies last. Similar to the Pro S Plus, the 1st Edition will also offer both rear and all-wheel drive options,

In addition to unique 20-inch wheels, the model features a striking two-tone color scheme, exclusive floor mats, and a light-colored interior referred to as “Dune,” perfect for a coastal vibe. The same aesthetic options are available for other Buzz models, alongside darker “Moonlight” interiors and a “Copper” option that embraces a mid-century modern style. Every 1st Edition is packed with premium features like a panoramic sunroof, Flexboard, easily operable power-sliding rear doors and tailgate, a harman/kardon speaker system, parking cameras, and distinctive 1st Edition branding. This edition includes second-row captain’s chairs, accommodating a total of six passengers.

The pricing for the 1st Edition is surprisingly affordable. Whether in rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, it’s just slightly more expensive than similar Pro S Plus versions, starting at $67,045 for the RWD model and $71,545 for the AWD variant.

Colorful offerings and more

The ID Buzz is all about charm, and its color selections very much embody this quality. Volkswagen plans to provide a variety of paint options along with the previously mentioned three interior themes. The two-tone combinations feature a Candy White top combined with lower colors like Energetic Orange, Pomelo Yellow, Blue Charcoal, Mahi Green, Metro Silver, Cabana Blue, or Indium Gray; alternatively, there’s a Metro Silver roof with Cherry Red on the lower half. If you prefer solid colors, the Buzz comes in Deep Black Pearl, Candy White, and Metro Silver. However, the two-tone options are exclusive to the Pro S Plus trim and higher.

Some key insights: Currently, the ID Buzz stands alone in its category as the sole electric minivan on the market. Even if other brands started producing all-electric vans, few could match the Buzz’s appealing retro-futuristic design, reminiscent of the beloved classic VW bus that enthusiasts have long awaited. In comparison, the next most expensive minivan is the $61,480 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid in its luxurious Pinnacle version, which comes fully equipped with rear-seat screens, plush leather upholstery, and even small throw pillows for added comfort in the second row—features you won’t find in the entry-level ID Buzz Pro S, priced similarly. Most mainstream minivans hover around the $50,000 mark, typically including surprising standard features such as heated front seats and steering wheels.

While the Pacifica provides only 32 miles of all-electric range, its overall range exceeds 500 miles. In contrast, once the ID Buzz’s battery depletes, it has no engine to rely on for continued travel, and its range of just under 250 miles is becoming increasingly unacceptable as lower-priced electric vehicles are emerging. Interestingly, this range is close to the base model of the Kia EV9, which offers 230 miles of range in its standard rear-wheel drive option; however, the Kia does provide a more substantial battery upgrade that can extend its range up to 304 miles. With its spacious, boxy design and usable third row, the Kia becomes the ID Buzz’s most direct competitor. It has a starting price of $56,395, slightly less than the VW, but when similarly equipped to the ID Buzz Pro S, their prices align closely. This pattern remains consistent across the EV9 lineup, except in terms of range, which the Kia surpasses, although the highest trims of the EV9 are somewhat pricier than the top-tier VW. It’s also important to note that the VW’s pricing bracket includes premium options like the Rivian R1S, which offers a third row, improved power, extended range, and standard all-wheel drive, starting at $75,900.

Whether potential buyers will be deterred by the price or the ID Buzz will be embraced as a lifestyle choice rather than just a typical minivan remains uncertain. The ID Buzz is set to launch this fall, and since VW is taking steps to prevent price gouging and other concerns, it’s reasonable to expect that demand will outstrip supply initially, suggesting the price may not pose an issue at first. However, as time goes on and early adopters and VW enthusiasts secure their vehicles, we anticipate that the MSRP will become a more considerable concern for potential buyers.
