Tragedy Strikes: Four Bodies Discovered on the Lynch Family Yacht, the Bayesian

Four bodies located on the Bayesian yacht owned by Mike Lynch’s family during an extensive search

On Wednesday, authorities recovered four bodies from the Bayesian superyacht, more than 48 hours after it sank off the coast of Italy. This tragic incident triggered a thorough search for six individuals who remain missing, including British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch.

Earlier on Wednesday, two of the discovered bodies were transported to land. Reports indicate that one of the individuals found was a stocky man, according to Reuters.

Out of the yacht’s 22 passengers, six people, including Lynch and his daughter, aged 18, went missing when the vessel sank early Monday morning as a storm hit the region. Officials confirmed that among the missing were American citizens.

The yacht, which is registered in the U.K., is owned by Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, who was also present on board but was rescued. Recently, Lynch was acquitted of fraud-related charges after spending a year under house arrest.

The ship’s cook, Ricardo Thomas, was confirmed dead on Monday, as reported by the coast guard.

The rescue operations included divers, helicopters, and several coast guard vessels searching the waters. On Monday, 15 individuals were rescued from the sea, with eight of them receiving hospital treatment but reported to be in stable condition.

Local prosecutors have launched an investigation into the sinking’s cause. Experts suggest that a waterspout—a tornado that forms over water with winds reaching up to 120 mph—may have contributed to the incident, in addition to the significant weight of the yacht’s mast, one of the largest worldwide.

The yacht, measuring 184 feet, was constructed by the Italian manufacturer Perini in 2008.

Lynch embarked on this voyage at the end of last month to celebrate his recent acquittal regarding fraud charges that had led to ten years of legal battles, as reported by the Associated Press.

Both one of his lawyers and a character witness from his trial were also on board and are among those missing. Authorities have yet to reveal the identities of the four individuals found deceased.

The following individuals have been reported missing.

Mike Lynch and Hannah Lynch

Mike Lynch, age 59, is the co-founder of Autonomy, the largest enterprise software firm in Britain, which was sold to Hewlett-Packard in 2011, and also the founder of the venture capital fund Invoke Capital.

Known as “Britain’s Bill Gates,” Lynch was faced with charges after HP claimed to have uncovered deceit and fraud within the company. He spent one year under house arrest following his extradition from the UK.

In June, after a twelve-week trial, a jury in San Francisco found Lynch not guilty of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Later that month, he was also exonerated of securities fraud.

Lynch and Bacares share two daughters and six dogs, which are reportedly all named after engineering components according to a feature in the Sunday Times last month.

Hannah Lynch, age 18, is also missing. She was slated to study English literature at Oxford University, as mentioned in the Sunday Times.

As the younger sibling, Hannah had to grow up with her father facing public fraud allegations.

Jonathan Bloomer and Judy Bloomer

Jonathan Bloomer serves as the non-executive chairman of Morgan Stanley International and the insurance firm Hiscox, among other corporations. He acted as a character witness for Lynch during his fraud trial.

According to a statement from Aki Hussain, Chief Executive of Hiscox, the company expressed profound shock and sorrow, extending their thoughts to those impacted by this tragedy.

Bloomer’s twin brother, Jeremy, shared with the BBC that he is trying to come to terms with the situation while awaiting updates.

“He was my elder by half an hour, so losing a twin brother is especially difficult,” Jeremy Bloomer stated. “We will remain hopeful for news.”

Judy Bloomer, Jonathan’s wife, has had nearly thirty years as a psychotherapist and was previously a teacher specializing in anxiety and stress management. She studied English language and literature at Homerton College, Cambridge.

Christopher Morvillo and Neda Morvillo

Chris Morvillo, a lawyer from Clifford Chance, was part of the legal team that represented Mike Lynch during his trial. He is a citizen of the United States.

Previously, he served as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York from 1999 to 2005 and was involved in the criminal investigation following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Morvillo graduated from Fordham University School of Law and Villanova University.

His wife, Neda Morvillo, operates a jewelry business under her maiden name, Neda Nassiri, and has been designing and creating jewelry for over 20 years.

In a post on LinkedIn after the completion of Lynch’s trial, Chris Morvillo expressed his gratitude towards his family for their unwavering support throughout the proceedings.

“Lastly, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to my wonderful and supportive wife, Neda Morvillo, as well as my two amazing daughters, Sabrina and Sophia Morvillo. Your love and encouragement made this all possible. I am truly happy to be back home.”

And they all lived happily ever after
