Authorities have revealed the identity of a man from Silicon Valley, who allegedly shot his two children, his wife, and then himself in what is believed to be a murder-suicide incident on Tuesday.
The tragic discovery was made by police in Milpitas, California, shortly before 9 p.m., as confirmed by Milpitas Police Chief Jared Hernandez in an official statement.
Worried relatives had requested a welfare check on the family after not hearing from them for a few days, police stated in their press release.
During their visit to the family’s residence on McCandless Drive, officers found Vinh Nguyen, 36, his wife Betty Pham, also 36, and their children—a 9-year-old son and a 4-year-old daughter—deceased.
According to police reports, each family member sustained a gunshot wound, and it has been confirmed that “Nguyen has been identified as the individual responsible.” A registered handgun belonging to him was located at the scene.
Initially, the police had described the children as preteens, but it was later clarified they were aged 9 and 4, as per the latest update from the police department.
‘This tragedy weighs heavily on our hearts’
“This incident has deeply saddened us,” Chief Hernandez expressed in the statement. “Their lives should not have ended this way, and we encourage anyone in distress to seek help, to prevent similar tragedies in the future.”
Milpitas has a dedicated Suicide Prevention Task Force that collaborates with Santa Clara County Behavioral Health Services, working to improve regional suicide prevention strategies.
