Ariana Grande Supports Ethan Slater, Criticizes ‘Evil’ Tabloids for Their Relationship Coverage
Ariana Grande has stepped up to defend her partner Ethan Slater.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the 31-year-old singer, known for her hit “Eternal Sunshine,” criticized the tabloid coverage surrounding her relationship with Slater, who is also her co-star in the forthcoming “Wicked” movie. Last year, the couple’s relationship came to light after both announced their separations from their respective spouses, sparking rumors of infidelity. However, reports from People magazine indicated their romance began only after their marriages ended.
“Naturally, I faced numerous life changes while we were filming this movie,” Grande expressed to Vanity Fair. “Many people involved had similar experiences. We were away for two years, and I can see why the tabloids would jump at the chance to fabricate stories that would boost their profits.”
Although Grande stated she wouldn’t divulge specific details about her relationship with Slater, she expressed that the “most disheartening part” was witnessing how many believed the worst interpretations of their story.
“It certainly has been a challenging experience,” she continued. In her defense of Slater, Grande remarked that there is “no more inaccurate portrayal of a person” than the one the tabloids have shown him to be.
“No one on this earth puts in more effort or goes above and beyond for the people he loves and cares for,” she shared. “There isn’t anyone with a better heart, and that’s something no (expletive) tabloid can alter in real life.”
Grande mentioned to the magazine that facing the “negativity fueled by untrustworthy tabloids” has “never gotten easier,” adding that they have been trying to undermine her since she was 19.
“At 31, I know I’m not perfect, but I am undeniably good at heart, and I’m proud of the person I’m becoming,” she expressed. “I refuse to let unscrupulous tabloids dictate my life or my understanding of what is real and positive.”
Grande was married to Dalton Gomez in 2021 and filed for divorce in 2023, with the process concluding in March. Slater was married to Lilly Jay since 2018, and their divorce was finalized this year. In the upcoming film, Slater plays Boq, a Munchkin, while Grande stars as Galinda.
Following his divorce from Grande, Gomez has begun a relationship with actress Maika Monroe, and they made their romance official on Instagram in June.
