Disney Cruise Line increases tip rates. Here’s what you need to know.
Passengers aboard Disney Cruise Line may notice higher costs on their upcoming excursions.
The cruise line announced an increase in its suggested tip rates this week. The new standard rate is $16 per person per day, rising from the previous $14.50. For guests staying in concierge rooms and suites, the charge has gone up to $27.25 per person daily, from $23.50.
These adjustments became effective on Wednesday.
The tips, which can be paid in advance, are shared among various crew members, including dining staff and room attendants. According to Disney’s website, “It is customary to provide tips as a way to acknowledge outstanding service, which you will certainly experience on board.”
If guests choose not to pay the gratuities in advance, these charges will be automatically billed to their onboard accounts. Passengers wishing to modify or eliminate the tips can do so by visiting Guest Services while on the ship.
Disney last revised these suggested amounts in July 2022, and it’s not the only cruise line to implement changes recently. Royal Caribbean International also raised its tip rates in November.
Cruise companies often increase these fees in response to “external factors” such as inflation or shifts in the economy, according to Danny Genung, CEO of the travel agency Harr Travel.
“Looking at the rising costs of hotels, travel, fuel, and food, this seems to be a typical reaction,” he previously stated to YSL News. “It’s about appropriately compensating staff and adjusting for increased expenses.”
