Griffeys will attend to see LeBron and Bronny James make history
The debut of LeBron James and Bronny James as members of the Los Angeles Lakers will mark an unprecedented event in NBA history.
That’s why former MLB greats Ken Griffey Jr. and Ken Sr. will be present on Tuesday night when the Lakers kick off the 2024-25 regular season against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
“We were the first father-son duo in baseball, and now it’s history in basketball too, so it’s very special for my dad and me to be there,” Griffey Jr. shared on SiriusXM radio earlier this week.
“We made history, and now we get to witness it.”
The Griffey family made sports history as the first father-son combination to play together in Major League Baseball for the Seattle Mariners during the 1990 and 1991 seasons.
They shared the field for the first time when Ken Sr. was 40 and Junior was just beginning his illustrious Hall of Fame career at the age of 20.
This situation closely parallels LeBron James, who is 39 and entering his 21st NBA season, while his son Bronny is making his debut at 20.
Lakers head coach JJ Redick hasn’t disclosed when this historic father-son occurrence will take place, but he mentioned he would discuss it beforehand with both players.
When informed that the Griffeys would be attending to witness this monumental event, Bronny James was ecstatic.
“It’s going to be incredible,” he remarked. “Only two families have done something like this, so it’s going to be a wild experience, especially considering what they have accomplished.”
