US investigates 1.4 million Honda and Acura vehicles for potential engine issues

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has initiated an investigation into more than 1.4 million Honda and Acura vehicles due to reports of engine failures.

This investigation, which started on Friday, focuses on vehicles possibly affected by connecting rod bearing failures that could result in a total engine failure. All the vehicles involved have a 3.5-liter V6 engine.

In 2023, Honda had already recalled about 250,000 vehicles for a similar problem. This recall resulted in 1,450 warranty claims, although there were no documented injuries or fatalities, as per the safety administration’s records.

The announcement for the investigation cites that the NHTSA has received 173 complaints from vehicle owners who were not part of the prior recall. One reported an accident, but thankfully, it resulted in no injuries.

Honda confirmed in a statement to YSL News on Monday that they will fully cooperate with the investigation.

Affected Honda and Acura Vehicles

The following models are included in the investigation:

  • 2016-2020 Acura MDX
  • 2018-2020 Acura TLX
  • 2016-2020 Honda Pilot
  • 2017-2019 Honda Ridgeline
  • 2018-2020 Honda Odyssey

How to Check for Recalls

If you’re interested in finding out whether your vehicle is subject to any recalls, you can  search the NHTSA’s website. These platforms allow you to check recalls using your vehicle identification number (VIN).
