‘Golden Bachelorette’ recap: Exciting kickball highlights with Gerry Turner and Wayne Newton

VENTURA, Calif. ― Hopefully, die-hard fans of the World Kickball Federation skipped Wednesday’s episode of “Golden Bachelorette.”

During a filming session at Ventura College last summer, the participants took part in a kickball tournament date, representing two teams composed of senior men from the Bachelor House. We saw some stretching routines on the field, with Joan Vassos, 61, showcasing her kicking skills.

There were some impressive moments, like Mark, 57, making a fantastic over-the-shoulder catch and Gary L., 65, skillfully dodging a throw before striking a Heisman Trophy-style pose. However, most of the kickball action provided plenty of laughs.

“You have to enjoy yourself, especially when playing sports at our age,” Gary mentioned to YSL News. “At my age, it really has to be fun.”

Here’s a rundown of what happened in Episode 3 of “Golden Bachelorette,” which also featured the return of Gerry Turner and a brief appearance by Wayne Newton.

‘Golden Bachelorette’ kickball’s highlights and letdowns

Let’s dive into the fun-filled action from the three-inning kickball tournament, oddly coached by NFL legends Andre Reed and Eric Dickerson. Also, shoutout to retired university president Gregg, 64, who impressively slid into third base and earned himself a nasty leg bruise without asking for any ointment.

Kudos also to first-time kickball player Charles L., 66, who hit a crucial two-out single that led to a significant run. He sprinted down the line just in time to avoid being tagged out. The Blue Team lifted the joyful Charles in celebration, winning a (post-shower) team date with Joan.

Conversely, one of the game’s low points was Mark, who did not impress as the “Hot Dad.” He simply stopped running down the first baseline during one play, opting instead for a hug with the first baseman.

“Mark had more hugs than hits in this game,” Jesse Palmer quipped while announcing the event.

Additionally, rolled oats placed throughout the scene seemed to be another letdown. They were over-promoted, with too many camera focuses on the oatmeal boxes, while Palmer’s enthusiastic endorsement of it was a bit much.

Red flags as Joan and Pascal head to Vegas and meet Wayne Newton

Can someone explain why Joan is so drawn to Pascal, 69, the salon owner from Paris? Apart from his striking looks, impressive physique, charm, and charming accent, that is. Even though he seems appealing, he admits he is quite high maintenance, not cooking, relying on others for meals, and hiring Gregg for laundry duties.

Charming, but perhaps not the best long-term choice for Joan. Regardless, Pascal scores a fantastic date that begins with a ride in a Ferrari. “I’m a terrible passenger,” he complains when he learns Joan will be driving (another red flag!). They travel to Vegas in a private jet and enjoy time in a suite at Paris Las Vegas.

Surprisingly, Las Vegas icon Wayne Newton, 82, makes an unexpected entrance, peeking through the door with his signature hair. Pascal is taken aback, wondering how he ended up sharing a room with the real Wayne Newton or his impersonator.

After the initial shock, Wayne, known as “Mr. Las Vegas,” joins in for a performance of his classic “Danke Schoën.” The night concludes with a romantic kiss, though Pascal overenthusiastically mentions it’s a “French kiss,” which was already clear.

Gerry Turner Offers Relationship Guidance

Joan, with her kind nature, seems to be the only person genuinely pleased to see “Golden Bachelor” Gerry Turner arriving in the limo for “Golden Bachelorette.” However, she’s currently facing her own challenges regarding love and various issues. Despite this, she still cares for Turner, who has gone through a similar ordeal. Asking someone who experienced a quick divorce from the “Golden” show for dating advice is akin to consulting Darth Vader for parenting advice.

Is Turner subtly preparing an excuse for the situation? He queries Joan, “Have you thought about the chance that your ideal partner might not be present?” Just as his own match seemed absent? Regardless, this meeting wraps up, and hopefully, it’s the last for the season.

Who Was Eliminated on ‘Golden Bachelorette’?

Joan gathered her thoughts and sent three contestants home during the rose ceremony.

Kim, 69, a retired Navy captain from Seattle: Despite his neat uniform, his relationship journey has been inconsistent. His awkward attempts to get everyone to sing the Joan song he created have not gained much support. Only one person joined in, while everyone else hesitated. Joan’s decision to let him go reflects her honest opinion about the song. It’s clear that it’s time for him to leave. He gives a respectful salute as he departs.

Gregg, 64, a former university president, has also been eliminated. This wasn’t a huge shock, but it’s pretty harsh to end things for him especially after he just suffered a setback in trying to win her affection.

Charles K (often referred to as C.K.), 62, a portfolio manager from Rancho Palos Verdes, California, is also a surprising exit, even though he never really had the chance to show his true potential.

As the competition intensifies, 10 contestants remain in the mix. Let’s see who will make it through to the next week.
