Laverne Cox concludes her role as E! red carpet host: ‘I feel a deep sense of pride’
A notable era comes to a close at E!
Laverne Cox, who has been the face of E!’s red carpet coverage for the past three years, has announced her departure from this role on Instagram this Thursday. Her announcement arrives just before the glamorous Golden Globe Awards scheduled for Sunday, an event known for its star-studded attendees who often share candid moments on the carpet.
“With heartfelt gratitude, I’ve made the decision not to return as host of #LiveFromE’s red carpet coverage. I am so incredibly proud of what we accomplished together during my three years,” the actress and activist shared in her post.
YSL News has reached out to both E! and Cox for further comments.
Cox, a fixture in celebrity news, infused both energy and elegance into red carpet coverage, often drawing admiration from A-listers who would stop and express their fandom for the “Orange is The New Black” star.
Her interviewing style focused on creating a friendly and open atmosphere rather than forming confrontational encounters, allowing conversations to feel more relaxed and genuine.
“We had the best time ever ❤️,” commented E! Entertainment’s Instagram account in response to her farewell. It remains to be seen who will take over her hosting duties, with previous hosts including Giuliana Rancic and Ryan Seacrest.
This Sunday, the coverage for the Golden Globes will be managed by Access Hollywood’s Zuri Hall and comedian Heather McMahan, as indicated in a press release from E!
Cox reflected in her farewell, “These experiences remind me of the incredible privilege it has been to engage with some of the most talented artists on their work and the challenges of success,”
As a groundbreaking figure in the entertainment industry, Cox holds the distinction of being the first transgender woman to host a major network’s red carpet coverage. She incorporated her unique perspective into her interviews.
During the 2024 Emmys ceremony in September, she expressed her pride to “Baby Reindeer” actress Nava Mau, who is also transgender, by saying, “I’m so proud of you.” As she wiped away tears, Cox added, “This show is fantastic, and your contributions are remarkable. Ten years ago, I became the first openly transgender person nominated for an acting Emmy, and here we are, ten years later, and I am not the last. You are the fourth, and the first in this category.”
Cox received four Emmy nominations for her role in “Orange is the New Black” and won a Daytime Emmy Award for her role as an executive producer of the documentary “Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word.”
“I look forward to continuing to grow, evolve, and explore exciting opportunities as an actress, artist, host, and speaker. I hope you all will join me on this journey of transformation,” Cox said in her Instagram farewell.
She also urged fans to watch her new comedy series “Clean Slate,” which is set to debut on Amazon Prime in February.
