‘No chemistry’: ‘Love is Blind’s’ Leo and Brittany talk about their split

Warning: This article contains spoilers from the initial six episodes of Season 7 of Netflix’s “Love is Blind” (currently available to stream).

Not all stories end happily.

Brittany Wisniewski and Leo Braudy, who got engaged after connecting in the pods on Season 7 of “Love is Blind,” ended their engagement shortly afterward. The show’s producers promptly removed them from the narrative.

“Brittany and Leo were not among the six pairs selected to progress to Mexico,” a message displayed midway through the fifth episode noted. “They opted for their own trip to Mexico and called off their engagement a few weeks later.”

Producer says Brittany and Leo were unlikely to say ‘I do’

While “Love is Blind” doesn’t always feature every couple that gets engaged in the pods due to logistical reasons, this marked the first instance where a couple was completely excluded from the show.

Chris Coelen, the creator and executive producer, explained to Variety that the choice regarding the couples highlighted on the show is tied to the scripted nature of the production and the lack of belief in Brittany and Leo’s relationship.

“There are various methods of producing non-scripted shows,” Coelen told the outlet. “At times, we have a sense of the direction things are heading during filming. But we don’t; we capture everything organically and later determine how it all fits together.”

Coelen added that the choice of which couples to follow is based on their perceived authenticity.

“When deciding which couples to feature, we assess which ones seem genuine,” Coelen explained to Variety. “By authentic, I mean couples that are genuinely likely to reach the altar and commit to each other. We believed the six couples we followed had a true shot at devotion, whereas Leo and Brittany seemed the least likely to take that step. Hence, we chose not to focus on them after the pods.”

Nevertheless, Coelen expressed optimism that they might attend the reunion.

Brittany and Leo’s journey in ‘Love is Blind’

After filming, Leo and Brittany ended their engagement in Miami and later discussed the reasons behind their split.

During their time in the pods, Leo found himself caught between Brittany and another contestant, Hannah. He revealed in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum that he felt a stronger connection with Brittany, while he referred to Hannah as his “twin flame.” Eventually, Leo intended to choose Hannah, but she informed him she had already bonded with another contestant, Nick D., which left Leo feeling disoriented.

Brittany, on her side, felt from the beginning that “it was Leo” for her but was unsettled and troubled about being his second choice.

“I was taken aback by his other connection because I had such strong feelings,” Brittany shared with Tudum. “Realizing he was asking both of us for our ring sizes was shocking. I couldn’t understand how my potential husband was undecided between me and someone else.”

Despite her reservations, Leo pursued Brittany and made an effort to demonstrate his commitment. His efforts paid off, as Brittany accepted his proposal, even though she had yet to express her love for him.

The ‘most awkward moment’

When Brittany and Leo finally met in person after their engagement, their first encounter left a lot to be desired, with Brittany describing it as the “most awkward moment” of her life.

“She’s incredibly gorgeous,” Leo shared with Tudum. “However, I got the impression from her gaze that I wasn’t exactly her type. That’s perfectly fine, but I could definitely sense it.”

Brittany mentioned that she picked up on an unexpected change in the atmosphere during their first encounter, emphasizing that it had nothing to do with his appearance.

Brittany described their meeting as “the most awkward moment of my life.” She was taken aback since she is usually quite perceptive. “I could connect with him emotionally and intellectually while talking to him from behind a wall, but in person, I thought, ‘Oh no, this is not my future husband.’ He was proposing to me again, and I felt like, ‘This isn’t right.’”

In a separate discussion with People, Brittany revealed that during the proposal, she “experienced every emotion imaginable in those 20 minutes and was completely overwhelmed.”

“His appearance didn’t surprise me—I had envisioned two versions of him, and he matched one of those perfectly, so that didn’t catch me off guard,” Brittany explained to People. “However, the feelings I had during the proposal were unexpected because right away, I thought, ‘This doesn’t feel right.’”

“It was an energetic sensation,” she added. “I just didn’t feel what one would typically expect during a proposal, despite having such a strong bond. To be honest, it didn’t feel like a physical disconnection. I find him quite attractive; he has a strong, magnetic presence when you’re near him. But it was more about my instinct. I can’t quite put it into words.”

‘Weakest couple’

While Leo was optimistic about being able to resolve their issues during the romantic retreat in Mexico, believing he liked her “more than she liked me,” Brittany told Tudum she was aware that they wouldn’t be going because “we were the weakest couple.”

When Leo learned they weren’t going, he expressed that he felt “crushed,” and Brittany admitted that she initially “didn’t absorb it,” but then “just burst into tears.”

“It was so overwhelming because I had strong feelings for him,” Brittany reflected.

After the show, they ventured to Miami to explore the possibility of a future together, but ultimately decided to part ways.

Both Leo and Brittany expressed that their time in Miami was enjoyable, but they didn’t foresee their engagement evolving into marriage and concluded that friendship was more suitable.

“We had many discussions throughout our trip and mutually agreed that we just didn’t envision it leading to marriage,” Leo shared with People.

Brittany echoed his sentiments, stating that “the chemistry just wasn’t there” for them, even though Leo “met a lot of the criteria” she had for a partner.

“There simply wasn’t a physical connection, to be honest,” Brittany confided to People. “He’s just not the right person for me.”
