Lucy Liu’s ideal day off: a trip to the grocery store
In YSL News’s The Essentials, celebrities reveal what inspires them, whether at home, on set, or traveling.
Lucy Liu is embracing the moment.
The Emmy-nominated actress, known for her role in CBS’ “Elementary,” is appearing alongside Chris Sullivan and Julia Fox in the film “Presence,” directed by Oscar winner Steven Soderbergh, which is hitting theaters on Friday. This follows her role in last year’s popular holiday movie “Red One.”
“‘Red One’ was such a successful film during the holiday season, creating a positive vibe. In contrast, ‘Presence’ was a more personal project,” Liu reflects, noting that the film was completed in just 11 days.
Filmed from a first-person viewpoint, Liu found the experience unique as it connected “time, space, and motion in a new way.”
Despite her hectic schedule as one of Hollywood’s top actresses, Liu opens up about her co-stars, what essentials she keeps in her travel bag, and what her perfect day off looks like.
Lucy Liu’s perfect day off? Shopping at the grocery store
Liu’s idea of a perfect day off might come as a surprise.
“If I had a completely free day with no responsibilities, I would simply wander around the grocery store, exploring the aisles and everything they have to offer.”
Living in New York, Liu views a trip to the grocery store as a refreshing break from her usual busy life.
“It’s such a simple pleasure, but it’s a joy to stroll through the aisles with a cart and take everything in,” she expressed.
As a mother to her 9-year-old son Rockwell, she makes time for cooking and enjoys listening to audiobooks.
‘I always have a bag ready’: Insights into Lucy Liu’s travel bag
For her cross-country work travels, Liu has one essential item: a travel bag.
“I always keep a bag ready to go,” Liu shares. “I just grab it and pack in other necessities, adjusting for the weather.”
Her travel essentials include slippers, a toiletry kit, and a good book — plus she has an unexpected tip for other travelers.
“I try to stick to a carry-on bag when I travel,” Liu remarks.
Lucy Liu has starred with the likes of Cameron Diaz and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson — but she doesn’t choose favorites
Liu has appeared alongside numerous prominent stars, including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and heartthrob Chris Evans in last year’s “Red One,” as well as Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore in “Charlie’s Angels,” which boosted her career.
However, she finds it tough to name a favorite co-star.
“It’s really challenging to pick just one because each actor brings something unique,” Liu explains.
Nonetheless, Liu emphasizes the importance of the entire team working behind the scenes.
“I cherish all my experiences with the people I’ve worked with, because it’s not only about the actors – it’s the crew as well,” Liu says. “You build a family atmosphere that continues long after the projects end.”
Could there be an ‘Elementary’ reboot? Lucy Liu shares her thoughts
Fans of the now-canceled CBS series “Elementary” have been eager for a reboot, especially with “Watson” taking its place on the network. Liu has some news regarding this.
“There’s been a resurgence of interest in the show,” Liu mentions. “It’s wonderful to see that it’s still relevant after all these years.”
As actors often move on to other roles, Liu appreciates fans for keeping the show’s spirit alive.
“I’ve led many different lives since my time as Joan Watson, but it’s nice to reflect on her and know she still resonates with people,” Liu shares.
A potential reboot could be just a text away: Liu plans to reach out to “Elementary” executive producer Robert Doherty to discuss a possible reunion or reboot.
“I’m going to message Rob saying, ‘Hey, I’ve just been asked about this for the first time.’ I’m curious to hear his thoughts.”
