The streaming service promises American audiences “unmatched access to every match in real-time,” featuring “engaging coverage, celebrity-studded studio segments, and an unprecedented tribute to women’s sports.”
The 2027 World Cup will take place in Brazil from June 24 to July 25. The host nation for the 2031 tournament has not yet been disclosed by FIFA.
According to Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, Bela Bajaria, bringing this prestigious tournament to Netflix is about more than just streaming games; it’s also about honoring the athletes, the culture, and the enthusiasm driving the international growth of women’s sports.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino expressed that Netflix will help showcase “the allure of women’s football to a vast audience.”
In a press statement, Infantino remarked, “This marks a pivotal moment for media rights in sports. As a prominent brand and FIFA’s new long-term collaborator, Netflix has demonstrated a robust commitment to promoting women’s football. This deal emphasizes the true worth of the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the global growth of the women’s game. The partnership between FIFA and Netflix marks a significant milestone for broadcasting and female football.”
Netflix has indicated that its agreement for the Women’s World Cup will include broadcasts in both English and Spanish, along with streaming services available in Puerto Rico. Additionally, Netflix intends to produce documentaries highlighting top players, their journeys, and the worldwide advancement of women’s football.
