Shohei Ohtani hits 48th home run, but Dodgers lose to Marlins
Jesus Sanchez recorded a standout performance, going 5-for-5 with three RBIs, two doubles, and two runs as the Miami Marlins triumphed over the Los Angeles Dodgers with a score of 11-9 on Tuesday night.
Shohei Ohtani smashed his 48th home run of the season, leading the National League, while finishing the game 1-for-5 with two RBIs for the Dodgers (89-62).
Ohtani, currently second in the majors with 48 stolen bases, did not add to his total during this game. He aims to become the first player in MLB history to reach 50 home runs and 50 steals in a single season.
Max Muncy contributed significantly for the Dodgers, hitting 3-for-5 with five RBIs. He managed to hit a two-run double in the ninth inning, but Marlins’ reliever Jesus Tinoco finished the game by striking out Tommy Edman with a 1-2 slider while Muncy was on second base.
Former Marlins shortstop Miguel Rojas also made his mark with a home run for the Dodgers, hitting a ball that deflected off Sanchez’s glove in left field.
Jake Burger had an impressive outing for Miami, driving in four runs with a two-run homer and two groundouts that resulted in RBIs.
Despite their struggles this season, with the worst record in the National League at 56-95, the Marlins also saw contributions from Kyle Stowers, who added an RBI triple and a set of doubles.
The game kicked off with Miami scoring two runs in the first inning thanks to RBI singles from Sanchez and Jonah Bride.
They extended their lead to 4-0 in the second inning, with Sanchez hitting another RBI single and Burger contributing a run-scoring groundout.
In the third inning, the Dodgers rallied to tie the game at 4-4. Hunter Feduccia’s single set up Ohtani, who launched a 402-foot home run to right field on a low 1-1 slider.
Afterward, Freddie Freeman and Teoscar Hernandez added singles, paving the way for Muncy’s two-run double.
Miami regained the lead in the bottom of the third when Otto Lopez hit a solo homer. However, Rojas matched it with a home run in the fourth inning to tie the game again.
The Marlins took control in the fourth inning, going ahead 7-5 starting with a double from Connor Norby, followed by RBI hits from Sanchez (double) and Stowers (triple).
The Dodgers narrowed the gap to 7-6 in the fifth inning when Mookie Betts tripled and later scored on Freeman’s sacrifice fly.
Miami pulled away by scoring three times in the sixth, capped by a run-scoring double from Stowers.
