Oregon Seizes the Top Spot in College Football’s US LBM Coaches Poll as Texas Falls from Grace

Oregon Rises to No. 1 in US LBM Coaches Poll Following Texas’s Decline

With the outcomes from the weekend’s college football games, there’s a new leader in the US LBM Coaches Poll. Predictably, it is the team that held the No. 2 spot last week.

Oregon has claimed the top ranking for the first time since November 11, 2012, after receiving 51 out of 53 first-place votes from coaches this week, following a dominant victory over Purdue. Although not unanimous, Georgia secured the other two first-place votes and jumped back to No. 2 after defeating the former No. 1 Texas on their home field. Meanwhile, Texas dropped to No. 6 after losing five spots.

Penn State remains unbeaten and stayed at No. 3 after enjoying a bye week. Ohio State also had a bye week, maintaining its position at No. 4. In a more competitive race for the No. 5 position, Miami just surpassed Texas, securing five additional points. LSU improved one spot to No. 7, followed closely by Tennessee, Clemson, and Iowa State. The Volunteers moved up two places after their win against Alabama.

Notre Dame holds steady at No. 11, while Brigham Young rises to No. 12. Indiana experiences a major leap, moving up five spots to No. 13 after a convincing win over previously ranked No. 25 Nebraska. Texas A&M rounds out the top 14, followed by Alabama.

Navy makes its return to the poll at No. 24, marking its first presence since the conclusion of the 2019 season. This also signifies the first occasion since YSL News started the coaches poll that both Navy and its rival Army, which ranks at No. 23, appear in the top 25 during the same week.

Additionally, No. 25 Vanderbilt is now in the rankings for the first time since the end of the 2013 season. Nebraska and Michigan have both dropped out of the rankings.
