Tragic Discovery: Two Bodies Uncovered Aboard the Lynch Family Yacht

Two bodies discovered in the sunken Bayesian yacht belonging to Mike Lynch’s family during a search operation

On Wednesday, two bodies were found inside the Bayesian super yacht, which sank off the coast of Italy more than 48 hours earlier. This incident initiated an extensive search for six individuals who are still missing, including British entrepreneur Mike Lynch.

Among the recovered bodies, one was identified as a stocky man, as reported by Reuters.

Six of the yacht’s 22 passengers, including Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter, have been unaccounted for since the vessel sank just before 5 a.m. on Monday due to a storm hitting the region. Confirmed among the missing are at least two Americans.

The yacht, which sank, was owned by Lynch’s family and had a U.K. registration. Recently, the tech magnate was exonerated from fraud accusations after spending over a year under house arrest.

According to the coast guard, Ricardo Thomas, the ship’s cook, was found deceased on Monday.

The rescue operation involved a team of divers, helicopters, and multiple coast guard vessels scouring the ocean. On Monday, 15 individuals were rescued from the water, and eight of them were taken to the hospital but are in stable condition.

A local prosecutor’s investigation into the circumstances surrounding the sinking is currently underway. Experts speculate that a water spout—a tornado-like phenomenon occurring over water with winds of up to 120 mph—along with the extreme weight of the yacht’s mast, which is among the largest globally, may have contributed to the accident.

The yacht, measuring 184 feet in length, was built by the Italian company Perini in 2008.
