Rashida Jones Pays Tribute to Quincy Jones After His Passing: ‘Your Love Lives On’
Rashida Jones is commemorating her iconic father, Quincy Jones, who passed away at the age of 91.
On Thursday, the former “Parks and Recreation” star shared a nostalgic baby photo with her dad, along with a touching message reflecting on their bond.
Rashida reminisced, “My dad lived a nocturnal lifestyle throughout his adult years. He maintained ‘jazz hours’ beginning in high school and never changed that. As a child, I would wake in the night searching for him, and he would usually be at home, composing music (the traditional way, with pen and paper).
“He never sent me back to bed. Instead, he would smile, welcome me into his arms, and keep working—that was the safest place I could be.”
She continued her tribute saying, “He was a giant. An icon. A game-changer. A genius. While these terms certainly describe my father, his music (and all his work) was a medium for his love. He embodied love. He made sure everyone he encountered felt loved and visible. That’s his legacy.”
Rashida concluded her heartfelt message with, “I was lucky to experience that love up close. I will miss his hugs, kisses, unwavering support, and wise advice. Daddy, I’m proud to be your daughter. Your love will always remain.”
Rashida Jones: Dad Quincy ‘Lived a Colorful Life’
In the two-hour Netflix documentary “Quincy,” released in 2018, which involved 800 hours of footage and 2,000 hours of archival video, Rashida teamed up with writer and director Alan Hicks to showcase her father’s extensive and diverse career.
The documentary team spent six years documenting Quincy Jones’ wide-ranging career, which took him from a childhood of poverty in Chicago to achieving global recognition after starting his music journey with Lionel Hampton’s big band as a trumpeter at 18.
Throughout his impressive career, Jones produced songs for legends like Ray Charles and Frank Sinatra; mentored rising stars such as Michael Jackson, Oprah Winfrey, and Will Smith; and was behind the iconic “We Are the World” charity single for famine relief. He fathered seven children through three marriages.
“It’s astounding. This is truly just the beginning because we had so much material, and he lived such an expansive life,” Rashida commented when discussing the documentary with YSL News. “I find it hard to believe that all this richness exists within a single person, who just happens to be my dad.”
Jones is survived by his children: Jolie Jones Levine (with ex-wife, actress Jeri Caldwell), Martina Jones and Quincy Jones III (with second wife, model Ulla Andersson), Kidada and Rashida Jones (with third wife, “Mod Squad” actress Peggy Lipton), Rachel Jones (with Carol Reynolds), and Kenya Julia Miambi Sarah Jones (with actress Nastassja Kinski).
